USC Researchers to MOIRAI Methodology at SDEWES 2026
The MOIRAI consortium is pleased to announce that partners from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), Spain will take part in the 21st Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES 2026), scheduled to be held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, from 30 August to 3 September 2026.
SDEWES 2026 is a major international forum dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary research on sustainable development, with a focus on integrated energy, water, and environmental systems and the decoupling of economic growth from natural resource consumption.
At this event, USC researchers will present their latest work titled “Tracking Environmental Efficiency Across Offshore Wind Farm Stages with a Hybrid LCA–DEA Methodology.” This research elaborates on an integrated assessment framework that combines Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) — a systematic methodology for quantifying environmental impacts across all life stages of a technology — with Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), a benchmarking technique used to evaluate relative efficiency across multiple decision-making units.
The hybrid LCA–DEA methodology offers an enhanced approach for tracking and comparing environmental efficiency throughout the lifecycle of offshore wind farms — from manufacture and installation to operation and end-of-life. By integrating environmental performance indicators with efficiency benchmarking, the framework supports more comprehensive environmental evaluation of renewable energy systems, helping stakeholders prioritise technology pathways that maximise sustainability outcomes.
USC’s participation in SDEWES 2026 continues MOIRAI’s commitment to disseminating methodological advances that strengthen evidence-based decision-making for sustainable energy systems. The presentation will engage with an international audience of researchers, policymakers, and industry experts, fostering dialogue on innovative metrics and tools for environmental assessment and sustainable infrastructure planning.
