REASSHORE is a modular hub that seamlessly integrates with existing platforms and digital twins of the ocean (DTOs) and produces available ocean knowledge for end-users and decision makers.
The Science-to-Policy (S2P) dashboard coupled with specialized modules adapted and tested for diverse end-users, demonstrating the transdisciplinary nature of this digital infrastructure. In its initial development phase, encompassing project duration, three targeted modules will be created.
- A sea-ice map visualization module, based on improved and optimized sea-ice models, will emerge as a valuable tool for shipping operators and multi-scale fisheries operating in the Arctic for instance. By offering predictive assessments of ice coverage, different types of ships can strategically evaluate the availability of specific areas, optimizing navigation routes.
- Another module focuses on assessing fish stocks by correlating primary productivity, optimal aquaculture sites identified in the Mediterranean Sea and the North Sea with multi-use offshore wind farms and marine heat wave predictions. The latter is a direct result of the early warning system. Such a module will empower fisheries and aquaculture stakeholders to make informed decisions, ensuring sustainability and adopting climate-positive management strategies.
- Lastly, REASSHORE will provide an essential map of European predictions for flooding, surges, and coastal extreme events, leveraging the second AI-based early warning system. It is crucial to emphasize that the testing of these modules will be limited to the six use cases, ensuring compatibility with the required technology readiness level (TRL) and aligning with the project’s scale.
Nevertheless, REASSHORE strives to transcend the limitations of a project-specific platform, aspiring to become a genuine hub that other projects can connect to and seamlessly integrate with. MOIRAI demonstrates the modularity of its components and their interoperability within the existing digital framework, allowing for the incorporation of future enhancements. REASSHORE will ensure iterative feedback from the MOIRAI’s End User Board and the consortium, ensuring that the developed solutions integrate requirements from the blue economy and are aligned with the priorities for its sectors.
